On Wednesday, 2.5 hours before the planned committee meeting, Hackney Council emailed to inform us that that due to “unprecedented representations” the meeting was postponed to 9th January.
Many thanks to all who’ve supported us to date and we’re sorry for any inconvenience caused to anyone planning to attend the protest by Hackney’s late decision. This is a positive step in the right direction, but the fight is not over! Please keep up the pressure and join us on 9th January to protest (we’ll remind everyone nearer the time) http://facebook.com/events/1171193883005387/ and keep sending in those objection letters! For those that haven’t already, the case number is 2018/0363 and you can email Barry Coughlan and the Planning Sub-Committee at planning.hackney.gov.uk
For our part we are pressing hard for the Planning Committee Members from Hackney to come and visit the studios to see with their own eyes what a catastrophe the planned building will be. We will also be making further representations in due course. Happy Holidays and all the best for 2019.
The Strongroom Team
Strongroom’s ‘not for profit’ kitchen is features in TimeOut Magazine!
If you pick up a copy of TimeOut magazine regularly like us from the stations around London then you may have seen us featured in their ‘Best of Shoreditch’ section!
Under Best Cheap Eat… “Strongroom Bar & Kitchen serves delicious food at cost price, including burgers for less than a fiver!”
Strongroom Studios has come under threat due to an office block development next door. This building would take up to two years to construct meaning our most used studios would have to close from the disturbance, debris and vibration caused.
Strongroom has seen faces such as Spice Girls, The Prodigy, Nick Cave, Radiohead, Björk, Depeche Mode and many more record here.
Please sign the petition and #SAVESTRONGROOM!
After years of trying to figure out what it is that people are looking to eat we think we’ve cracked it: fresh, tasty food (with healthy options of course) at an affordable price.
Therefore we have decided to venture into unchartered territory by launching a not-for-profit kitchen. This means we will only be charging for the cost of the ingredients and the loving labour that goes into making each dish and not a penny more.
As of this year, we are no longer serving plastic straws and have moved onto paper!
